ADS-B Surveillance System – Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, NEPAL — June 2025 — In a landmark achievement for Nepal’s aviation infrastructure, Pacific Group has successfully delivered, installed, and commissioned the country’s first-ever Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) system in Nepal — marking a giant leap toward safer, smarter, and more efficient air traffic management.

This turnkey project, fully integrated with NEC’s Multi-Sensor Data Processing System (MSDPS), represents a major technological upgrade for Nepal’s only international airport — bringing it in line with global aviation standards and enhancing situational awareness for air traffic controllers.

What is ADS-B — and Why It Matters for Nepal

ADS-B is a next-generation surveillance technology that allows aircraft to determine their position via satellite navigation (like GPS) and periodically broadcast it — enabling air traffic control and other aircraft to track them with far greater precision than traditional radar.

Benefits for Nepal’s skies:

Improved Safety — Real-time, high-accuracy tracking of aircraft, even in mountainous or radar-blind zones.
Increased Capacity — Enables more efficient flight paths and reduced separation between aircraft — critical for TIA’s growing traffic.
Lower Infrastructure Cost — Unlike radar, ADS-B ground stations are compact, energy-efficient, and easier to deploy across remote regions.
Future-Ready — Lays the foundation for Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) and seamless integration with regional/global air traffic networks.

“This isn’t just an equipment installation — it’s a transformation of Nepal’s aviation future,” said a senior project lead at Pacific Group. “For decades, we’ve relied on aging systems. With ADS-B, we’re not catching up — we’re leaping ahead. This system will make flights safer, more predictable, and more efficient for every airline, pilot, and passenger using Nepal’s airspace.”

A Turnkey Triumph: From Supply to Full Integration

Pacific Group didn’t just supply hardware — it delivered a complete turnkey solution, including:

🔹 End-to-end system design and engineering
🔹 Supply and installation of ADS-B ground stations
🔹 Full integration with NEC’s MSDPS at TIA’s control center
🔹 Staff training and ongoing technical support

This project underscores Pacific Group’s unique capability to execute complex, mission-critical national infrastructure projects — combining global technology partnerships with deep local expertise.
